House Rules: Bloodlines

Swords of our Fathers...

Bloodlines

Any character made has a choice in Birthright - to be a commoner or one of those with the divine spark of one of the gods who died long ago at the battle of Daesmaar. If they are of the latter, here then are the rules for determining such a bennefit.

Bloodline Strength and Source

We are using a slightly modified version of the most recent BRd20 rules for Bloodlines. E-mail me for details if you need them.

Bloodline/Leadership Score

Characters ability to rule is dependant on either their divine right to rule (via Bloodline Strength), or their knack for managing groups of people (via Leadership Score).  Characters are thus limited by the greater of these two ratings in regards to gathering regency points and other Domain-related issues.

Bodyguards & Lieutenants: the Regent’s Followers

Scions gain an assortment of followers upon their becoming a Regent.  These are members of his entourage, followers loyal to his Domain (and thus to him, though that loyalty may fade if he ever looses his throne).  Such followers may come from the Aristocrat, Commoner, Expert or Warrior classes, and are supported by his monthly court costs. The regent may also recruit Cohorts to act as Lieutenants.  Such Lieutenants may have a higher character level than the Scion, but only up to the character’s full ECL.  The Regent may employ a number of Lieutenants equal to the level of his Court, and such Cohorts must be of a race acceptable to his Domain’s society (meaning monster lieutenants are pretty much right-out). The Leadership Table in the DMG can be used to determine numbers and levels (just use the character’s BS in place of LS).
