Blood Runes,

A Story of Myndi in the Dawn Age,

By Ian Wilson

Oh so you wish to hear of our legends outsider?  Well, I have no compunction about telling the old lore.  Of which of the great pair would you care to hear about?  So you wish to hear about Myndi. Then sit and I shall regale you with the legends handed down throughout the generations.

I'll start at the beginning with the coming of the first runes.  After the birth of the world and the placing of the moon Myndi wandered the lands trying to understand her own power.  One thing that she strove to understand was her great sword and the blood runes etched into the blade by the Changer.  For years she tried to unlock the power etched in her own blood.  One day during her research she found a book that told of an old vampire of immense power dwelling in a temple in the deep forest.  The book told that the vampire had gained it's strength from the runes it carved in it's flesh.  Myndi sought out this vampire and fought through the guardians that protected its foul lair.

Upon reaching the heart of the temple she met the vampire and they fought until neither could fight no more, when the runes on her blade flashed bright and filled her with a great rage.  Forcing herself up she plunged the blade deep in to the vampires heart, extinguishing its foul existence. A strange thing happened at that moment - the runes on her blade changed, and the writing on the vampire's chest faded and appeared on the blade.  Myndi was overwhelmed, as dark knowledge was thrust upon her. She collapsed and for a year and a day. She moved naught.

When she awoke, she found the wisdom of centuries in her head and the secret of rune crafting was hers.  She passed this knowledge on to her youngest child who founded the runemasters guild.  And that is how the last of the four great guilds was created.
